Abstract: The way of computational fluid dynamics with k-ε turbulence model as well as multiple reference frame method was used to simulate the hydraulic characteristics of gas-liquid mixing flow in a stirred tank installed with an inverted umbrella-type surface aerator. The inverted umbrella aerator consists of eight blades, and rotates at 5.23rad/s. The main purpose of this simulation is to study the distributions of air volume fraction and characteristics of mixing flow. The simulation results show that the distribution of the mixing flow is symmetrical; the change rules of the gas distribution at different positions along the axis direction are almost the same case and on radial direction keep in good consistency; and only in the region where the surface aerator is installed the gas distribution along the radius has some difference.
