Research on the Torque Ripple of Brushless DC Motor under Non-ideal EMF

Abstract: Non-ideal back-EMF waveform of brushless DC motor is unavoidable due to manufactory technology limitation, which contributes to the torque ripple and requires high performance controller to suppress the influence. Several back-EMF waveforms are analyzed and mathematical model of non-ideal back-EMF is proposed. The torque ripple under the non-ideal waveform is calculated and the relationship between torque ripple and the shape of back-EMF waveform is achieved by this model. The change of torque ripple under non-ideal back-EMF is simulated with driving current of square wave and sinusoidal wave. The results show the effectiveness of the back-EMF model for calculating the torque ripple and prove the reliability of the torque ripple relationship.
