Real-time Virtual Simulation of Tidal Bore

Abstract: Tidal bore is a kind of unique natural landscape and tourism resource in the world. Research on characteristic of tidal bore is very useful to help people realize surge prevention and disaster reduction and discover new resources of tidal bore. The traditional research method based on numerical simulation has great deficiencies in the aspect of interaction and real-time and visualization. The virtual simulation method was introduced to simulate the tidal bore. The Navier-Stokes equations were solved by the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method to simulate dynamically the formation, evolution and dissipation of the tidal bore. The phenomena of the intersecting, reflection of the tidal bore, and line-type tidal bore, interaction between the tidal bore and the spur dike were replicated. The simulation results show that the virtual simulation method is a good tool to study the tidal bore.
