Ship Damage Floatation Calculation Based on STL Model

Abstract: In order to calculate the damaged floating state of bulk carrier,an iterative algorithm was discussed based on STL model of the ship shell and all the compartments. According to the STL model, the 3D database of ship was established, "weight Added method" and "iterative method" were used to calculate the floating state of the damage ship. Bulk carrier "DOLCE VITA" was taken as an example, “The normal ballast condition at arrival" and "Fully loaded with homogeneous cargo at departure" loading conditions were calculated, compared with calculated value of ship design software NAPA, the average error of trim is 0.012 3 m, the average error of heeling angle is 0.052°, and the average relative error of inflooded water is 0.28%. The accuracy of the algorithm was verified. Experimental results show that: STL model is derived from the ship design data, has high calculation accuracy, and has good application prospect. Floating state iteration algorithm, which can guarantee program iterations and avoid calculating the elements of water plane, has certain engineering application value.
