Web-based Indoor Environment Virtual Walkthrough System YANG Meng, WANG Guo-ping, DONG Shi-hai     A new scheme based on Client/Server frame for indoor environment virtual walkthrough is presented in this paper. The proposed method first constructs a hierarchical q-j polygon patches linking map of all the patches by adaptively subdividing patches into subpatches according to the patch’s attribute and a user-supplied error bound. After that, the environment is rendered using a light tracing algorithm and the result is saved in a panoramic map. The panoramic map is used to synthesize the view at novel viewpoint during walkthrough process. The size of the data structures required by storing panoramic map is not much large, and only a sparse set of patches is needed to be transferred over network, so this method is well suitable for web-based virtual walkthrough system.
